For too long, we’ve settled for outdoor furniture that’s hard and rigid for the sake of durability. Well, not anymore. This season, the latest designs have centered around comfort instead, and there’s one particular style that has come to the fore (again): Papasan chairs.

Once a hallmark of the Boho style of yesteryear, in 2026, these scooping, bowl-shaped seats have a little bit more contemporary edge. It’s the ultimate accent chair to relax into, especially when coupled with modern outdoor furniture silhouettes and motifs. Imagine the plump, sculptural shape of a Papasan chair styled with more streamlined, low-slung seats.

Just because you want a comfortable place to lounge outdoors doesn’t mean you should have to sacrifice style. It’s a sentiment reflected in the latest outdoor furniture trends, and to make it easy for you, I’ve found 12 of the best styles to shop.

This Bend Goods Peacock Lounge chair diverges from the typical papasan chair, while still embracing that cozy bucket-like feel.

“The Papasan-style garden chair is a perfect cocoon for spending your spring evenings,” says Design Lab by Livingetc stylist, Miaad Latoof. “I would style it with something textured underfoot that elevates your outdoor space — think a jute outdoor rug — and add a plush cushion in a contrasting color. Pair it with a rattan side table like the Rampura side table from Nkuku to complement the Papasan chair’s silhouette for visual weight, and you’ve completely transformed your cozy corner into a haven.”

Basically, you don’t have to go full boho, but just a touch of modern boho style can make your garden feel oh-so much more comfortable. Ready to shop? Here are 12 of the most design-forward styles I found that work with a range of tastes, schemes, and budgets.

Holloways of Ludlow, Fatboy Rock 'n Roll & Original Outdoor Beanbag

    Fatboy

Rock ‘n Roll & Original Outdoor Beanbag

I’ve decided to start off controversially. Does this Fatboy outdoor chair count as a Papasan style? It sure does have that same cocooning, comforting feel! It comes in 9 different colors and has a rocking function. Chair of the summer? I think so.

Habitat, Scoop 2 Seater Metal Garden Bistro Set - Green

Scoop 2 Seater Metal Garden Bistro Set

This Habitat bistro set was one of the first Papasan-inspired styles I spotted this season, and I am still obsessed. It’s a modern take that is just as cozy-looking and makes for an elevated lounge moment. For £180? That’s a steal.

    FLEXISPOT, Oversized Rocking Papasan Chair

No chair has ever made me want to take an afternoon nap as this one does. The overstuffed cushion, rocking design, and high back offer maximum comfort. Plus, you can use this indoors and out.

OUTSUNNY, Swivel Rattan Papasan Moon Bowl Chair Round With Padded

Swivel Rattan Papasan Moon Bowl Chair

I mean, just look how cozy this plush seat looks! And it’s a swivel chair! It’s made from powder-coated steel, and it comes in a cool gray color. It’s perfect for those who want a traditional Papasan accent chair.

GoodHome, Lucala Green Metal Bucket chair

    GoodHome

    Lucala Green Metal Bucket Chair

This cozy, scooping chair is made with a water-resistant foam and aluminium frame that suits regular outdoor use. But beyond that, it has such a stylish form that will look perfect amongst contemporary garden decor.

Grey Rattan Garden Papasan Moon Chair

    Furniturebox

Grey Rattan Garden Papasan Moon Chair

This is for if you want to go the traditional Papasan chair route. The textured rattan is UV- and weather-resistant, and can be left outdoors year-round. It only needs to be wiped down with a damp, soft brush or cloth every so often to keep it looking brand new.

    Charles Bentley, Porto Rocking Chair

    Porto Rocking Chair

A Papasan chair with a little pizazz? This contemporary rocking style is one of my favorite new takes on the Papasan chair. And this could totally double as a cozy bistro set if you double up!

Atkin & Thyme, Savannah Lounge Chair

    Atkin & Thyme

    Savannah Lounge Chair

This Savannah lounge chair is made out of durable powder-coated aluminium, is weatherproof, and has UV-proof real rope weave.

    Qeeboo, Garden Armchair Nami

    Garden Armchair Nami

It’s not a traditional Papasan style, but this outdoor armchair has that same cozy bucket-seat look. It’s made of Polyethylene and should always be covered from frost.

Galbiati Fratelli, Aria Round White Sofa

This feels like a designer, contemporary take on the Papasan chair. It’s for those who want a luxurious outdoor space, comfort, but maybe something less traditional.

Wayfair.co.uk, Bay Isle Home Sitka Garden Chair With Cushion

    Bay Isle Home

    Sitka Garden Chair With Cushion

The over-plush seat is what makes the Papasan style so alluring. However, the cushions are not waterproof, so it is suggested to bring them inside when not in use.

Barker & Stonehouse, Rochelle Garden Swivel Chair, Light Grey

    Barker & Stonehouse

    Rochelle Garden Swivel Chair

This cozy swivel chair has more of an egg chair design, but still brings the heart of the Papasan style. The light gray, stone tone works in many different gardens, and it’s built with an iron frame and weather-resistant rope.

The biggest garden seating mistake is investing in pieces that are so uncomfortable you’ll never use them. A Papasan chair is almost a comfort guarantee.
