“Whatever happened to Saturday night? / When you dressed up sharp and you felt all right.”
Stephanie Hsu may not be able to speak for Saturday night, but she sure looked sharp for the 2026 Tony Awards on Sunday.
The actor—who earned her first lead actress nomination for her role as Janet in the Rocky Horror Picture Show revival—was plenty busy for last night’s ceremony; While she attended as a nominee, Hsu and the cast also performed during the show. Hsu arrived at Radio City Music Hall, the show’s venue, bright and early the morning of the Tonys. “Some people have been here all night. I got to get here at eight, which is a lot softer, but it’s a long day,” she tells Vogue. “We take a bus over to Radio City to record our dress rehearsal for the Tonys performance. They can use it [instead of] the live performance in case anything happens.”
While she got into full “Janet drag,” as she puts it, Hsu did a Broadway-worthy quick change into her black tie ceremony dress. “My catchphrase for my dress this evening is ‘I got my flowers.’ I am the flowers, which is to say it’s a really beautiful floral, very celebratory dress by Monique Lhuillier,” Hsu says of the pink dress with metallic magenta and gold flowers. “I feel really elegant and chic when I wear it, and I’m really excited.”
Hsu opted for a more subdued makeup look to strike a contrast with the ultra-feminine dress. But while the modern gown looked a long way from Janet, the actor still paid homage to her character. “My Easter egg is my hair inspo: the amazing cover of the original Roxy cast of the Rocky Horror Show,” Hsu explains. While the 1974 production at the Roxy nightclub in Los Angeles served as Hsu’s beauty inspiration for the night, it was also a jumping-off point for the entire revival. “That is my favorite version of all the Rocky Horrors and one that was a huge inspiration musically for this version.”
