What I Packed for a 4-Day Trip to Mallorca

Whether I’m headed out East or island-hopping in Greece, summer packing always starts with the same idea: I want pieces that can be worn in more ways than one; that look polished but feel effortless; and that can withstand the mix of sweat, salt, and SPF.

I’m writing this as I head to Mallorca, Spain, for a trip to celebrate Free People’s newest summer collaboration with British designer Matthew Williamson. Naturally, the contents of my suitcase lean into the island’s relaxed spirit—think breezy linens and other gauzy layers that can go from a morning walk in town to a lingering family-style dinner under the stars.

I’ve always found summer packing to be naturally easier. Fabrics are lighter, silhouettes are simpler, and everything seems to take up less room. For this trip, I relied on a few warm-weather go-tos to feel put-together in the heat: a flowy maxi, some printed balloon trousers, lightweight layering pieces (some tanks and a billowy blouse), plus a few swimsuits for poolside lounging. I stuck to my preferred palette of neutrals—a lot of white and black—adding in a touchy of whimsy and color with an embellished net bag, bright jellies, and a sequined cap (my wild card for the trip!).
